On the 244th celebration of America's Birthday on the Fourth of July 2020 and the 40th Anniversary presentation of "A Capitol Fourth", Patti LaBelle performed "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" from the Liberty Bell Center in Philadelphia. With the backdrop of the Liberty Bell and Independence Bell, Philadelphia native Patti LaBelle was a featured performer as part of a national tradition broadcast on PBS stations across the United States.

Amidst the time period marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and nationwide protests against racism and police brutality, Patti LaBelle celebrated America's Birthday from America's Birthplace with a stirring performance of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" which symbolized faith that better days are ahead.

This year’s A Capitol Fourth show (the Washington, D.C. based celebration) was co-hosted by two-time Emmy Award-nominated actor and producer John Stamos (Netflix’s You, Fuller House, Full House, ER) and multi-platinum recording artist and star of television, film and the Broadway stage Vanessa Williams. The nation’s 244th birthday party featured new performances from iconic locations across the country, including Washington, D.C, Philadelphia, New York, Nashville, and Los Angeles, as well as highlights from the concert’s forty-year history and the stirring patriotic favorites viewers enjoy on the Fourth of July.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional live broadcast on July 4th of A Capitol Fourth was not be held on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. Instead, to ensure the health and safety of all involved, the 2020 concert performances were pre-taped without a live audience, including Patti LaBelle's performance from the Liberty Bell in Philly.
