The freedom of religion has been argued over for many centuries, though we are lucky that our American Constitution allows many freedoms, such as the freedom of religion. This freedom allows people to see that everybody is different, and everybody should still be treated the same way. First, looking back in time, the Jews have been seeking out for somewhere to live in peace. When Nazis took over Europe, some Jews were able to escape and move to America because it was safe for them to live, due to various American ideals including freedom of religion. Another reason is that the freedom of religion complements other freedoms, including the freedom of speech, because you can’t have one without the other. With the freedom of speech, but no freedom of religion, it just wouldn’t work out because to say things about your religion is freedom of speech; but if you couldn’t practice a certain religion, you couldn’t say things about that religion, so it wouldn’t be freedom of speech. The final reason is if you were only allowed to have faith in one religion, millions of people in America would go to jail just because they couldn’t practice their religion. Thankfully this isn’t possible because Americans have a right to practice any religion, which is found in the Constitution. In conclusion, the most important freedom must be the freedom of religion as people’s right to live freely. Because of our rights to religion, millions of lives have changed and people don’t have to hide in fear of someone punishing them for what they believe in. Let’s be proud to be American with so many freedoms given to us in the Constitution.
